Living in the Past: The Inevitable Inhibition of Realizing the American Dream My Ántonia is a novel by Willa Cather. The novel is carry through in the form of a fictional memoir. Jim Burden is the acknowledgment of that memoir. The memoir chronicles his childhood growing up in a small town called Black Hawk, in the Great Plains flummox up of Nebrpostulatea, with his dear childhood friend, Ántonia. Although only one of these children is technically an immigrant, Ántonia, they twain went through the analogous journey. They left their homes and their past behind, and traveled to a new land, foreign and bare. Jim might have only migrated from Virginia, further this land was so different it might have rattling well been a new country.
